The Raceboard class outnumbers the IMCO fleet 35 to 19 and is made up of masters duelling to overcome the ravages of time as well as their fellows. The MOD class includes Olympic hopefuls with their eyes on Athens 2004, youth, juniors and under 15s too. Local FW sailors are expected to join the party on Friday and Saturday.
Race 1
Race 1 started in slack tide and a building but steady breeze. Marcos Reuteman (ARG) took the right side of the course off the start line with Ivan Pastor (ESP) in close company. You did not have to be Russell Coutts to tell that this was definitely the paying side. Marcos arrived at the upwind mark with a good lead on Ivan who was closely followed by the first woman Catalina Walther (ARG). These three were never headed
Race 2
Sadly in Race Marcos failed to pick up the changed tidal conditions and only managed third place behind Martin Benitez (ARG) and Ivan Pastor (ESP). Ivan and Marcos are now tied in first place overall.
Racing is scheduled through until Saturday 1 March.
