Cold And Snowing At The Yachtclub Braassemermeer

Saturday saw the 250 young sailors from 11 countries start their real racing. The fleet is divided in 6 groups, sailing five races in pairs.

The day started with wet snow and hale so where did the sun go? The morning started with sun and light winds from the south. Afterwards it became cloudy and the first race started in force 2 -3. During the second race the wind increased to SSW force four and it started to rain a little. Temperatures were low so the sailors had to work hard to keep themselves warm. Wind increased while the competitors were getting ready for their third race. This race proved to be a real test. Being on the water for 8 hours with only a short break, the young sailors were quite cold and exhausted.

Afterwards all the competitors and their parents had dinner together while at the same time Dutch television showed a feature during the evening news about twins competing in the Easter Regatta. According to expectations Sunday will bring clouds and some rain while winds will be from the North West around force 4. Temperatures should be 9 degrees Centigrade. Two races are planned, the first one to start at 10.00 hrs.
