The Sailing… Have a Go! programme continues to successfully engage schools, clubs and children in Auckland and Northland. By the end of term one, the Northern Region will have given over 500 school children the opportunity to have a go at sailing. 19 schools and eleven clubs have experienced Sailing… Have a Go! already. Of those children that have taken part to date, 44% have never sailed before, and 58% have indicated they would like continue sailing and join a club.
The organizers are now progressing with plans to launch the Southern Region in term four this year and the Central Region in term one, 2007. If your club would like to be involved with this new initiative contact Sabra DAVIES before 30 April.
Sailing… Have a Go!
The Team New Zealand 2000 Trust, in accordance with Sir Peter BLAKE's vision, want to establish New Zealand wide opportunities for young people to experience sailing in a safe and well managed environment. Schools are offered the opportunity to take part in the Sailing… Have a Go! initiative designed to give children the opportunity to experience the pleasure of sailing and most importantly, have fun! Yachting New Zealand wants to enable their transition into yacht clubs and encourage their continued involvement in the sport.
Yachting New Zealand have provided a variety of programme structures that will fit in with schools. Programmes consist of a variety of activities and games which focus on three parts of the school curriculum. For more on Sailing… Have a Go! visit the website - www.sailing.org.nz.
